I have my hopes up. I think Detroit will come out with an electric or hybrid that stands on its own - that is, it will just be better than a gas-powered vehicle. I saw an article today about battery technology that is cheaper, runs for more charges, is lighter, packs more of a punch for take-off, and recovers energy from braking and stuff better than the ones they're using now for hybrids. They've just passed the 100,000 mile mark with a vehicle running on these "CSIRO" batteries. http://www.physorg.com/news119803106.html.
